HOD™ Hydro-Optic Disinfection Technology
Atlantium HOD UV uses Total Internal Reflection (TIR) to trap UV photons inside a quartz disinfection chamber surrounded by an air block. Light rays bounce repeatedly through the full water volume, delivering a homogenous UV dose across every water molecule — even in high-flow, variable-UVT conditions. The maker states the technology is designed to achieve 4-log virus inactivation, with far fewer lamps than conventional low-pressure UV systems.
Technology
- Disinfection principle
- Total Internal Reflection (TIR) in quartz chamber
- Lamp type
- Medium-pressure high-intensity (MPHI) — polychromatic 200–415 nm
- Lamp count vs LP
- 2–4 MP lamps replace 50+ LP lamps
- Lamp sleeve
- High grade fused silica (quartz), 5× standard thickness
- Dose distribution
- Homogenous — TIR recycles photons through full water volume
Control & monitoring
- Controller
- AiO flat touch-screen (SCADA-ready)
- Displays
- UV dose, UVT%, lamp power, flow — real-time
- Data logging
- Up to 6 months
- Per-lamp sensor
- Dedicated UV sensor per lamp (continuous lamp monitoring)
- UVT sensor
- Integrated per unit (real UVT, not estimated)
- Lamp power control
- 25–100% variable output
Construction
- Housing material
- Electro-polished SS 316 / Super duplex (RS104, RZ104, RZ163, RZ300, RZB300); electro-polished 316L (EP600, EP900); SS 316 / Super duplex (RZM200); SS 316L / Super duplex (RZM350)
- Max water temp
- 60°C (lamps on) / 90°C (lamps off)
- Max ambient temp
- 45°C / 113°F
- IP rating
- IP54 / IP56 (RZ104, RZ163, RZ300, RZB300); IP54 / Type 4X (RS104); IP54 (EP600, EP900, RZM200, RZM350)
- Lamp replacement
- In-situ — no draining, no depressurization
Best for
Key product advantages
- Designed to achieve 4-log virus inactivation (organism surrogates and adenovirus, per the maker); third-party validation certificate retrieved covers RZ104-11 and RZ104-12 only
- 2–4 lamps replace 50+ low-pressure equivalents: smaller footprint, simpler maintenance
- Per-lamp real-time UV sensor — unique to HOD UV — guarantees dose delivery, not estimation
